Happy Birthday, Bea!

I spent my thirty-second birthday celebrating Beatrix's first birthday. She and I packed up and went outside, where there was a cold wind blowing. And so we attempted to make a dent in our seeds by planting sweet peas and sugarsnap peas.

The kids gave us a birthday parade.

Elpseth gave me a sweet spring birthday bouquet.

Eventually, the cool wind and the excitement of pea planting proved too much for the littlest birthday girl.

And finally it snowed tonight.

On Beatrix's first birthday, she walks, plays in toilets,

watches movies with the big kids,

flirts,

crawls into tiny spaces and stands on alarming surfaces (ie., rocking chairs),

thinks she's big,

and continues to be the most charming, easy-going, delightful baby I have ever encountered.

um, kim, are you sure you did not turn 31, not 32? at least, i will be turning 31 in a few days and i always thought we were the same age... :) happy birthday again!

I'm pretty sure there were years when Kim didn't remember the date of her birth, let alone her age. (Now she's got Bea to help her remember April 6.)

I know I told her yesterday morning, "Happy 31st Birthday," and she said, "I'm 32, right?"

I said if she keeps that up, she'll always be pleasantly surprised to turn the age she already thought she was!

Your Auntie also thought you were born in '76.
Bicentennial year and all that.

Usually as we get older we are tempted to shave years off, not add them.

Happy Birthday Dear Niece!

We just wish we could have been around you more as you kids were growing up.

Alas, life has it's regrets.

Oops!

I am goofy, '76 was your sister.

1978, I don't really remember much about the disco years.

But as Dr Suess so adroitly put it,

"Today you are you!"

Also, a big Happy Birthday to Bea!

Yes, Auntie and Uncle, that is a regret I share, as well--that you all were so far away. Nieces need good aunties and uncles like you--thanks, thanks, thanks, for the lovely package. It is waiting for a quiet moment when other kids don't feel left out and Martin is home long enough to enjoy it with us.

This weekend would be good, as there are some very special Easter Cookies in there.
Even your Cousin the soldier was impressed, and he doesn't impress that easily.

Happy Easter!
